Here are 11 things to know about CNLs:
1. CNLs average salary totals $74,770, according to PayScale data.
2. On average, CNLs have a hourly wage that falls between $24.24 and $44.18.
3. The top university for clinical nurse leader programs at the master’s and/or doctor of nursing practice level is Baltimore-based University of Maryland, according to U.S. News & World Report.
4. The Commission on Nurse Certification manages the CNL Certification program, which the CNC’s board of commissioners governs.
5. The National Commission for Certifying Agencies accredits CNC’s CNL Certification Program.
6. The American Association of Colleges of Nursing reports 90 percent of CNLs report feeling valued as employees due to their CNL knowledge and skills.
7. The AACN also found 97 percent of CNLs apply their CNL knowledge and skills in their roles at their respective organizations.
8. To be eligible for CNL certification, an individual must have their master’s in nursing.
9. Eligible individuals must also complete a minimum of 400 clinical hours within their formal CNL education program to obtain certification.
10. The AACN reports CNLs lead the “lateral integration of care for a distinct group of patients.”
11. The CNL may provide patient care in certain situations. CNLs do not meet the criteria for the advance nursing scope of practice, however.
