Physicians from UNC, Boston Children’s, Miami earn 2025 Sherman Prizes

The Bruce and Cynthia Sherman Charitable Foundation has named the 2025 Sherman Prize recipients, honoring excellence in Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis research and care.

Michael Kappelman, MD, of the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, and Scott Snapper, MD, PhD, of Boston Children’s Hospital, each received $100,000 awards for their work advancing pediatric IBD care and uncovering genetic drivers of the disease, according to a Sept. 16 news release shared with Becker’s

Oriana Damas, MD, of the University of Miami, was awarded the $25,000 Emerging Leader Prize for research on genetic, environmental and dietary risk factors affecting Hispanic patients with IBD. 

Award recipients will be recognized Dec. 9 at the Advances in IBD conference in Orlando, Fla.
