The study assessed 3,664 cases of Crohn’s disease; 4,428 cases of ulcerative colitis; 97 cases of inflammatory bowel disease and 21,832 control cases. Of the total study population, 24 cases and 36 control were exposed to isotretinoin, which is used for treatment of acne.
Results showed that ulcerative colitis had a strong association with previous isotretinoin exposure. On the other hand, there was not as strong of an association between isotretinoin and Crohn’s disease.
