Study: Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy Appears Safe for Bariatric Surgery

The Bariatric Surgery Center Network reported that laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy appears to be as safe as laparoscopic adjustable gastric band and laparoscopic Roux-en-Y bypass, according to a report by Internal Medicine News.

The Bariatric Surgery Center Network, an accreditation program that is part of the American College of Surgeons, reported that one year after surgery, laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy was associated with morbidity and effectiveness rates between both other procedures.

However, authors of this observational study said additional years of follow-up would be important to gauge the procedure’s effectiveness.
