Study: InterStim Incontinence Therapy Still Effective After 3 Years

A new multicenter study shows use of Medtronic’s InterStim Therapy via sacral nerve stimulation reduced incontinent episodes and improved quality of life in most patients with chronic fecal incontinence after three years of follow up, according to a report in Diseases of the Colon and Rectum.

The study indicated the long-term effectiveness and safety of InterStim in patients with fecal incontinence of more than twice per week.

 

At three years, 86 percent of subjects had at least a 50 percent reduction in incontinent episodes and 40 percent had perfect continence.
