Here are three observations:
1. Radiofrequency energy is delivered via a catheter to the esophagus to remove diseased tissue while minimizing injury to healthy esophagus tissue.
2. RFA for Barrett’s esophagus has been used in many cases nationwide, and the devices required have been cleared by the FDA.
3. Atif Saleem, MD, of United Health Services Gastroenterology in Binghamton, N.Y., said radiofrequency ablation has become the standard approach for patients with Barrett’s esophagus.
