Researchers Map Hydrogenotrophic Microbes in Colon

Researchers have mapped hydrogenotrophic microbes in the colon to help gastroenterologists and other clinicians better understand their density and locations, according to an International Society for Microbial Ecology Journal abstract.

Researchers said this was the first study to compare the diversity and abundance of colonic microbes in more than one healthy individual, in this case 25.

 

They sampled the ascending and descending colon as well as the rectum and looked for genes that contribute to different hydrogen-consuming metabolic pathways.
