One study, published in Surgical Innovation, showed that of 110 GERD patients who underwent TIF, typically and atypical symptom scores were normalized in 75-80 percent of patients. Proton pump inhibitors were discontinued in 93 percent of patients. In all, 20 percent of patient reported having improved symptomatically, whereas only 8 percent had ongoing GERD.

In another study, published in Surgical Endoscopy, researchers conducted follow-up with 37 patients who underwent TIF after six months. Results from their procedures showed significant improvements in both typical and atypical symptoms in 64 percent and 70-80 percent of patients, respectively. Also 82 percent of patients stopped their reflux medications.

A study published in Surgery also supported the utilization of TIF in GERD patients. The study’s results showed that out of 26 patients, 79 percent no longer needed their reflux medications 6-7 weeks after their procedure.
