Raleigh Endoscopy Center’s Dr. Murtaza Parekh Receives ACG Auxiliary Award

Raleigh (N.C.) Endoscopy Center’s Murtaza Parekh, MD, received recognition from the American College of Gastroenterology at the Annual Scientific Meeting.

Dr. Parekh conducted a research study on CRNA propofol sedation in ambulatory endoscopy centers and presented his findings at the annual meeting. The study, titled “Do CRNAs Need On-Site MD Anesthesia Supervision for Safe Propofol Sedation in an Ambulatory Endoscopy Center (AEC)?” received an ACG Auxiliary Award.

According to a Medscape report, Dr. Parekh’s study reviewed more than 100,000 patient records and showed adverse event rates were low when CRNAs handled sedation, whether an anesthesiologist was present or not.
