Providence Medford (Ore.) Medical Center closed its endoscopy department for 11 days following an infection-control breach related to scope cleaning, hospital and state officials confirmed, according to a July 26 report by the Rogue Valley Times.

The department was closed from June 27 to July 8 after lapses in the endoscope cleaning process were found, according to a hospital statement published in the report. Officials said the hospital consulted with the Oregon Health Authority and the CDC, and is offering free testing to affected patients, though details on the testing and the number of patients involved were not disclosed.

No related illnesses have been reported, and the hospital said it has implemented new safety measures and staff retraining as part of its response. OHA said the incident remains under review, in coordination with the CDC.

At the Becker's 23rd Annual Spine, Orthopedic and Pain Management-Driven ASC + The Future of Spine Conference, taking place June 11-13 in Chicago, spine surgeons, orthopedic leaders and ASC executives will come together to explore minimally invasive techniques, ASC growth strategies and innovations shaping the future of outpatient spine care.
