The center is a collaboration between New York Presbyterian Hospital and Weill Cornell Medical Center, both in New York. It was founded in honor of news icon Katie Couric’s husband, who died from an advanced case of colon cancer.

The Monahan Center was established in 2004 with support from The Entertainment Industry Foundation’s National Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance.
