Medscape released the Ethics Report 2018: Money, Romance and Patients survey, which asked physicians their thoughts on key ethics issues, including whether it's acceptable for physicians to date their patients, random drug testing and more.

Here's how GI physicians weighed in:
1. Forty-six percent of gastroenterologists said physicians should be subjected to random testing for drug and alcohol abuse.
2. Eleven percent of physicians surveyed said they would perform a procedure that may be medically unwarranted because of malpractice fears, with one GI physician saying, "Yes. Sometimes you fear missing something and it can become an issue later."
3. Twenty-seven percent of physicians said they thought it was ethical to date a patient six months to a year after they stopped being a patient.
