GI physician leader to know: Dr. Manish Thapar of Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals

Manish Thapar, MD, is an assistant professor of medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals in Philadelphia. He previously served as medical director of liver transplant at Hahnemann University Hospital for the Drexel University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. He is board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology.

Dr. Thapar was recently named medical director of Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center’s Liver Transplant Program in Camden, N.J. His clinical and research interests include viral hepatitis, cirrhosis, liver cancer, liver transplant, genetic & metabolic liver disease and porphyrias. His work has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Seminars in Liver Disease, Hepatology and Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

Dr. Thapar completed his medical degree at Government Medical College in India. He completed his residency at Abington (Pa.) Memorial Hospital as well as a gastroenterology fellowship at University of Missouri in Columbia and a transplant hepatology fellowship at University of Connecticut Health Science Center in Farmington.
