GI physician leader to know: Dr. John Fang of University of Utah Health Care

John C. Fang, MD, is the chief of the gastroenterology division and a professor of medicine at University of Utah Health Care and Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City. He is also the medical director of endoscopy at the University of Utah Hospital. He is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology’s Publications Committee and FDA Committee as well as the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy’s Public Relations Committee.

Dr. Fang focuses on Barrett’s esophagus, enteral nutrition, esophageal diseases, GI motility, gastroesophageal reflux disease and therapeutic endoscopy. He has led trials involving eosinophilic esophagitis, GERD, feeding tube technology and therapeutic endoscopy. He has served as director of the University of Utah and Brigham and Woman’s annual Therapeutic Endoscopy Course. His work has been published in peer-reviewed publications such as Gastroenterology.

Dr. Fang earned his medical degree at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He completed his residency at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia. He has also completed a GI fellowship at University of Virginia Health Sciences Center in Charlottesville.
