GI physician leader to know: Dr. Gary Lichtenstein of Penn Medicine

Gary R. Lichtenstein, MD, is director of the Center for Inflammatory Bowel Diseases at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia. He is also a professor of medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He serves on the Practice Parameters Committee at the American College of Gastroenterology.

Dr. Lichtenstein has a professional interest in inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. His research interests include medical therapy of IBD, safety of current medical therapy for IBD and natural history of disease.

Dr. Lichtenstein’s work has been published in professional journals and textbooks, such as Gastroenterology, Inflammatory Bowel Diseases and Medical Therapy of Ulcerative Colitis.

Dr. Lichtenstein earned his medical degree at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York and completed his residency at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C. He completed his fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
