He joined UVA in 1992, and helped establish the university’s hepatology program. His research focuses on ethics and familial relationships in nonalcoholic steatohepatitis. Dr. Caldwell oversees treatment trials for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and other liver diseases. In his clinical practice, Dr. Caldwell performs upper GI endoscopy and treats cirrhosis and GI cancers.
He is also a professor of medicine at UVA, and is board-certified in gastroenterology and internal medicine.
