Gastroenterologist to know: Dr. John Affronti of Tulane University School of Medicine

John P. Affronti, MD, is the interim chief of the gastroenterology and hepatology department at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans.

Dr. Affronti’s clinical interests include colonoscopy, endoscopy, esophagoscopy, colorectal cancer, colon cancer and endoscopic ultrasound, among others. He also has experience treating biliary and pancreatic disorders.

Previously, Dr. Affronti served as director of endoscopy at the University of Florida in Jacksonville, where he set up the institution’s first endoscopic ultrasound program. In 2013, the Medical College of Georgia in August recruited him to develop the advanced endoscopy program at the institute’s new Digestive Health Center. While there, he served as director of the advanced endoscopy and gastrointestinal services.

Dr. Affronti earned his medical degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C., where he also completed his residency. He underwent his gastroenterology fellowship at Duke University in Durham, N.C.
