Gastroenterologist named co-director of a Northwell Health’s research division

New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based Northwell Health’s Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research named gastroenterologist Lopa Mishra, MD, co-director for the Institute of Bioelectronic Medicine.

Dr. Mishra most recently served as director of the Center for Translational Medicine at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., according to a May 20 release. 

Before that, she served as chair of the Department of Gastroenterology at Houston-based MD Anderson Cancer Center from 2009 to 2016.

In her new position, Dr. Mishra will develop novel therapies and clinical trials centered on the emerging field of bioelectronic medicine, the release said. 

Over the past academic year, she built six multidisciplinary collaborative programs, gave eight invited talks and co-authored/senior-authored seven publications. She also serves on five advisory boards, including at UCLA, Mayo Clinic, VCU, Cincinnati and Georgetown University.
