The American Gastroenterological Association awarded Uma Sundaram, MD, fellow status. Dr. Sundaram is the vice dean of research at the Huntington, W.Va.-based Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine

The AGA named 18 physicians and researchers for its third class of Future Leaders. The class includes Christen Klochan Dilly, MD, of the Indiana University School of Medicine and Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis; Daniel Freedberg, MD, of Columbia University in New York City; and Ruben Hernaez, MD, PhD, of Baylor College of Medicine and Michael E. The AGA selected 10 early-career physician-scientists as “scholars” for its 2019 AGA Fostering Opportunities Resulting in Workforce and Research Diversity program. The physicians include Yelina Alvarez, MD, PhD, of Philadelphia-based University of Pennsylvania Health System; Dominique Bailey, MD, of New York City-based Columbia University Medical Center; and Veroushka Ballester-Vargas, MD, of Columbia University Medical Center.
