A jury of biomedical research leaders selected the finalists, including gastroenterologist Giovanni Traverso, MB, PhD, of Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. Dr. Traverso was recognized for his work developing orally delivered medications that reside in the gastric cavity, as well an oral delivery system for such biologics as insulin.
Dr. Traverso is also an assistant professor in the department of mechanical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston. The winner will be announced and awarded a $10,000 honorarium at the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health board dinner Oct. 23.
