American Society of Bariatric Physicians Supports FDA Warning Letters for Misleading Advertising of Lap-Band

The American Society of Bariatric Physicians supports the FDA's decision to issue warnings to surgery centers and 1-800-GET-THIN for misleading advertisements, according to a news release.

Last week, the FDA sent warning letters eight surgical centers and California marketing firm 1-800-GET-THIN, asking them to remove misleading advertisements for the Lap-Band device.

The FDA objects to the advertising because it does not include federal mandated information on relevant warnings and information about precautions, side effects and the medical reasons that make a treatment inappropriate.
