Three key takeaways from the AGA:
1. Recertification shouldn’t be burdensome. The AGA said the recertification pathway shouldn’t burden physicians, avoiding burnout issues and workforce reductions.
2. Requirements should be relevant to practice. Physicians who have a narrowly defined practice should have certification and assessments tailored to them.
3. Certification is not equal to credentials. Continuous certification is not an employment credential, the AGA said. Board certification should not be a requirement for hospital credentialing.
