AGA president Dr. Michael Camilleri advocates for GI in Washington: 4 takeaways

This month, American Gastroenterological Association Institute President Michael Camilleri, MD, traveled to Capitol Hill to advocate for the specialty.

Here are four takeaways from Dr. Camilleri’s time in Washington, D.C.

1. Dr. Camilleri met with the offices of several Senators including:

• Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio)
• Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.)
• Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.)
• Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.)

2. The AGA Institute President discussed colonoscopy reimbursement, obesity initiatives and more with the senators’ offices.

3. Dr. Camilleri also met with House of Representatives members Rep. Tom Coles (R-Okla.), Rep. Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) and Rep. Tim Walz (D-Minn.).

4. He discussed colorectal cancer screening, National Institutes of Health funding and more with the representatives.
