The American Gastroenterological Association is partnering with Latica, a healthcare data company, to launch a real-world evidence study evaluating living clinical guidelines for ulcerative colitis, according to an Aug.26 report by Bioengineer.org.
The initiative will use AI and natural language processing to analyze de-identified EHR data from large GI practice networks, including Miami-based Gastro Health and West Long Branch, N.J.-based Allied Digestive Health, according to the report.
Living guidelines differ from traditional protocols by continuously integrating new therapeutic insights and clinical practice changes. The study aims to measure treatment adoption, patient care pathways, remission rates, hospitalizations and therapy adherence, offering insight into how evidence-based recommendations translate into community practice.
The collaboration will help close the gap between research and real-world care, while Latica executives emphasized the potential for predictive modeling to identify treatment patterns and anticipate patient needs. Community practice leaders called the effort a step toward advancing precision gastroenterology and improving patient outcomes, according to the report.
