9 GI physicians earning honors

Here are nine gastroenterologists who received honors within the past month.

The American Cancer Society honored two GI/endoscopy surgeons at its 35th Annual Diamond Ball on Nov. 15 — Andrew Gumbs, MD, and Tamir Ben-Menachem, MD, MS.

The American Gastroenterological Association Academy of Educators selected four recipients of a $1,000 competitive educational grant award — Akwi W. Asombang, MD, MPH, FAAP, FACP; Candi Jump, DO; Sumona Saha, MD; and Matthew Whitson, MD.

David T. Rubin, MD, was appointed the University of Chicago Joseph B. Kirsner Professor in Medicine.

Nitesh Ratnakar, MD, FACG, was elected as West Virginia Governor for the American College of Gastroenterology.

Stephen Hanauer, MD, FACG, was elected the 2014 to 2015 president of the American College of Gastroenterology.
