Here’s what you should know:

1. The system is used to treat Barrett’s esophagus patients.

2. The system destroys unwanted tissue through the use of extreme cold.

3. Physicians use a balloon probe connected to a catheter that when it contacts the wall of the target tissue it is cooled as it inflates with nitrous oxide. The temperature change destroys the precancerous lesions, while sparing healthy tissue.

4. The entire procedure is completed within 15 to 30 minutes.

5. Pentax Medical’s Global Chief Marketing Officer David Woods said, “We are committed to advancing the treatment of Barrett’s esophagus with a new generation of ablation devices that are easy to use and improve clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction. The C2 CryoBalloon strengthens our therapeutic endoscopy portfolio and is an important technology that enables endoscopists to improve the quality of care they provide to their patients.”
