Medscape surveyed about 20,000 physicians to compile its report

Four salary and employment statistics:

1. Gastroenterologists earn on average $417,000
2. Self-employed ($440,000) gastroenterologists earn more than those who don’t work for themselves ($393,000).
3. Fifty-one percent of gastroenterologists reported feeling that they’re fairly compensated.
4. Thirty-seven percent work in an office-based single-specialty group practice.
