12 Recent Gastroenterologists on the Move

Here are 12 gastroenterologists who have recently joined a new practice or opened a new office. Physicians are listed in alphabetical order.

1. Girish Anand, MD — Atlanta Gastroenterology Associates. Girish Anand, MD joined Atlanta Gastroenterology Associates in Roswell, Ga., in Oct. 2011. Dr. Anand received his bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery degree at Dr. M.G.R. University, Christian Medical College, in Vellore, India. After some time working and completing an internship in Vellore, Dr. Anand underwent further training in the U.S., including an internship in internal medicine and fellowship in gastroenterology at the Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia.

2. Robert Antonelle, MD — White Plains (N.Y.) Hospital and White Plains Hospital Physician Associates. Robert Antonelle, MD, joined White Plains (N.Y.) Hospital and White Plains Hospital Physician Associates earlier this month. Dr. Antonelle has been affiliated with White Plains Hospital since 1993 and been in private practice for the past 17 years. He is also an assistant clinical professor of medicine at New York Medical College. Dr. Antonelle's clinical focus includes colonoscopy, upper endoscopy and the management of biliary and liver diseases. He has published articles on the management of bleeding vascular lesions in the GI tract, management of difficult polyps and more colon hydrotherapy.

3. Ashok Attaluri, MD — Gastroenterology Consultants and the Heartland Center for Motility. Ashok Attaluri, MD, joined Gastroenterology Consultants and the Heartland Center for Motility in Davenport, Iowa, and the surrounding Iowa-Illinois area in late Aug. 2011. Dr. Attaluri focuses on advanced GI motility. He joins the practice after several years of training in the specialty at the University of Iowa. Dr. Attaluri graduated from Siddhartha Medical College in India and completed his internship in internal medicine at Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, Ill., and a fellowship in Internal Medicine at the University of Iowa, Iowa City. He has also completed specialized fellowships in neurogastroenterology and motility and gastroenterology and hepatology in Iowa City.

4. John Baille, MD — Carteret Medical Group. John Baille, MD, began offering services at the new office of Carteret Medical Group in Morehead City, N.C., in Sept. 2011. Based in Winston Salem, N.C., Dr. Baille has had almost 30 years of experience managing gastrointestinal disorders and GI endoscopy, including endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography. He earned his MD at the University of Glasgow in Scotland and completed a gastroenterology residency at University of Minnesota Affiliated Hospitals.

5. Zubin Bhesania — Michigan Bariatric Institute.
Zubin Bhesania, MD, joined the Michigan Bariatric Institute at Saint Joseph Mercy Health System's Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Mich., earlier this month. Dr. Bhesania is a surgeon at Huron Surgical Clinic, Port Huron, Mich., and received his medical degree from the University of Western Ontario in 1993. He completed his surgical residency at St. John Hospital in Detroit. Dr. Bhesania was the first surgeon in Michigan to perform lap-band surgery and has been involved in lap-band research studies. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

6. Anthony W. Boutt — Michigan Bariatric Institute. Anthony W. Boutt, MD, also joined the Michigan Bariatric Institute earlier this month. Dr.  Boutt has been on staff at Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital since 2002 and provides general and bariatric surgical services through the Huron Surgical Clinic. He obtained his medical degree from Wayne State University in 1997 and completed his general surgical residency at St. John Hospital and Medical Center in 2002. Dr. Boutt is a member of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

7. Maureen Daye, MD — Emerson Hospital.
Maureen Daye, MD, has joined the gastroenterology service department at Emerson Hospital in Concord, Mass., in Sept. 2011. Dr. Daye focuses on inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, gastroesophageal reflux disease, celiac sprue and colon cancer screening. Dr. Daye earned her MD from State University of New York (Syracuse) College of Medicine. She completed a residency at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center and a gastroenterology fellowship at McGill University School of Medicine.

8. Q. Cindy Gao, MD — Southcoast Health System. Q. Cindy Gao, MD, joined Southcoast Physicians Services and began practicing at the Southcoast Health System at Rosebrook location in Wareham, Mass., in Dec. 2011. Dr. Gao earned her medical degree from Hunan Medical University in Changsha, Hunan, China, and her master's of science degree in the department of pediatrics from the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Dr. Gao completed her internal medicine residency at Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington, Mass., and her gastroenterology and hepatology fellowship at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago. Dr. Gao is board certified in internal medicine and a member of the American Gastroenterological Association, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the American College of Gastroenterology and the American Medical Association.

9. Yasmin Karim, MD — Atlanta Gastroenterology Associates. Yasmin Karim, MD, also joined Atlanta Gastroenterology Associates in Oct. 2011. Dr. Karim underwent and completed her medical training at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C., where she also finished her internship and residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in gastroenterology.

10. Mohamed O. Othman, MD —Paul L. Foster School of Medicine. Mohamed O. Othman, MD, was appointed assistant professor in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine, a new medical school affiliated with Texas Tech University in El Paso in Sept. 2011. His clinical interests include endoscopic ultrasound evaluation of gastrointestinal malignancies and mediastinal lymphadenopathies and endoscopic mucosal resection of advanced lesions in the GI tract. Dr. Othman earned his MD in Egypt and then conducted post-doctoral research at Joslin Diabetes Center at Harvard. He completed a residency and gastroenterology fellowship at the University of New Mexico and then completed an advanced endoscopy fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Florida.

11. Alexandra K. Retana, MD — Hawthorn Medical Associates. Alexandra K. Retana, MD, joined Hawthorn Medical Associates in North Dartmouth, Mass., in Sept. 2011. Dr. Retana is fluent in English, Spanish and Russian and has a special interest in gastroenterology, endoscopy, video capsule endoscopy and women's health. Dr. Retana earned her MD at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia and completed a residency at Tufts Medical Center in Boston and a gastroenterology fellowship at University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, Mass.

12. Ian S. Soriano, MD — Montgomery Hospital Medical Center. Ian S. Soriano, MD, joined Einstein Healthcare Network and began seeing patients at Montgomery Hospital Medical Center in Norristown, Pa., earlier this month. Dr. Soriano was a resident at Einstein from 2001-2006 and went on to complete the minimally invasive and bariatric surgery fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic – Florida campus. Most recently, he was associate director of the bariatric surgery program at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia and interim director of bariatric surgery at Jeanes Hospital in Philadelphia.
