Morgantown-based West Virginia University Heart and Vascular Institute is offering robotic procedures for aortic stenosis, a common and potentially fatal heart valve disease, providing patients with less invasive alternatives to open-heart surgery, according to an Aug. 1 news release by the system.
The institute has performed two world-first operations — robotic aortic valve replacement and robotic transcatheter aortic valve replacement explant with valve replacement. These advances can shorten recovery times and lower complication risks.
WVU’s robotic cardiac surgery program is internationally recognized for developing innovative techniques, according to the release.
