UK HealthCare’s Gill Heart & Vascular Institute in Lexington, Ky., has opened a new heart catheterization lab for adults with congenital heart disease and children at Kentucky Children’s Hospital, also in Lexington, according to a July 28 UKnow report. The lab is said to be the most advanced in the region, featuring 3D rotational angiography and integrated CT and MRI imaging to improve precision and reduce radiation exposure during procedures.
The expansion supports a variety of catheter-based treatments, such as atrial septal defect repair and pulmonary valve replacements. An adjacent electrophysiology lab also received upgrades, including new technology that allows real-time collaboration with Cincinnati Children’s during procedures.
Both labs are part of the Joint Pediatric and Congenital Heart Program, a partnership with Cincinnati Children’s — ranked among the top pediatric cardiology programs in the United States — designed to reduce the need for out-of-state care and expand access to specialized heart services in Kentucky.
