Two people dressed as medical personnel stole checkbooks from Portland-based Pediatric Cardiology Center of Oregon and later cashed forged checks worth thousands of dollars, according to an Aug. 17 KGW8 report.
The incident occurred Aug. 12 when the individuals — one wearing scrubs and the other a T-shirt — entered the clinic and took three checkbooks from pediatric cardiologist Marc Legras, MD. The pair left after about seven minutes and within hours attempted to cash forged checks, including one for $2,300 that was denied and another for $2,000 that was successful.
Dr. Legras said the incident has raised safety concerns for staff and patients and noted the suspects also have access to his home address. He urged the community to help identify the individuals responsible, who have not yet been apprehended.
