On average, cardiologists nationwide earn $507,000 a year, according to the most recent data from Medscape. However, the highest paid cardiologists in cities including New York City and Los Angeles make far more, with salaries surpassing $1 million. 

Essentia Health-Fargo (Minn.) has added cardiologist Abdallah Mansour, MD. 

Bangor, Maine-based Northern Light Cardiology has added Thorarinn Arni Bjarnason, MD, to its team of cardiologists.

On Sept. 1, UnitedHealthcare is set to begin a two-phased approach to eliminate prior authorization requirements for several procedure codes, including 12 cardiology-related codes. The code removals will account for almost 20 percent of its overall prior authorization volume. 

Houma, La.-based Cardiovascular Institute of the South is set to add three new cardiologists to its team: Ayush Arora, MD, McCall Walker, MD, and Paritosh Kafle, MD, according to an Aug. 14 report from Biz New Orleans.
