Cardiology in ASCs continues to evolve, with efficiency gains driving higher revenue per OR minute — rising from $104.46 in 2023 to $132.88 in 2024, according to data from HST Pathways.

Here are five things to know about cardiology ASCs:

1. OR block utilization rose from 27% to 32%, reflecting a significant operational gain. Cardiology centers remain well below the 70% benchmark for efficiency, but technology-driven scheduling and block management can help close the gap.

2. Pre-authorization approval rates fell from 26% to 21%, potentially affecting scheduling. By contrast, insurance verification rates reached 92%, outperforming the industry average of 78%.

3. Case cancellation rates improved from 21.4% to 20.6%. Patient decisions accounted for 44% of cancellations, while 16% were due to reschedules.

4. Deposit collection rates dropped from 75% to 66%, showing fewer patients are paying upfront.

5. Net revenue per case declined slightly from $4,849 to $4,733. Still, billing efficiency improved — average days to bill fell from 11 to 8, and claim denial rates decreased from 18% to 15%, easing some revenue cycle pressures. Case volume held steady at about 20 monthly cases.
