Hoag appoints new director of cardiovascular surgery

Jack Sun, MD, has been appointed to lead the cardiovascular surgery program at Newport Beach, Calif.-based Hoag’s Jeffrey M. Carlton Heart & Vascular Institute. 

According to a May 6 news release, Dr. Sun will lead initiatives supporting new therapies and technologies for patients recovering from major heart attacks and cardiac arrest. The release calls Dr. Sun “a leader in the field of minimally invasive surgery” and complex cardiac procedures, including mitral valve repair, aortic surgery, surgical treatment of atrial fibrillation and mechanical circulatory support. 

Dr. Sun previously served as chief of cardiac surgery and an associate clinical professor of surgery at the University of California—Irvine. He earned his medical degree from the University of Toronto and completed his residency in cardiac surgery at McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada. He also completed an advanced fellowship in cardiac surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.
