1. Newark, N.J.-based University Hospital’s Structural Heart Program completed its 100th transcatheter aortic valve replacement procedure. Each procedure is performed by a multidisciplinary team, including cardiologists and cardiac surgeons, at the hospital’s cardiac catheterization lab. 

2. Christiano Spadaccio, MD, and Antonio Panza, MD, both professors within the University of Cincinnati’s cardiac surgery department completed the first implant of a fully tissue-engineered tricuspid valve in Ohio.

3. Physicians at the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute completed the world’s first robotic transcatheter aortic valve replacement explant and aortic valve replacement June 4.

The procedure was performed by Vinay Badhwar, MD, executive chair of the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute; cardiac surgeons Ali Darehzereshki, MD, Goya Raikar, MD, J. Hunter Mehaffey, MD, and Lawrence Wei, MD; and cardiologist Ramesh Daggubati, MD.
