AMGA surveyed non-profit and for-profit medical groups across the U.S., representing over 15,300 full time providers.
Total profit per physicians in independent practices increased to $2,510 in 2018, up from $2,396 in 2017.
Integrated health systems lost less money per physician in 2018 than they did in 2017. In 2018, integrated health systems lost $201,042 per physician, compared to $243,918 lost per physician in 2017.
“The improvement of integrated systems is reflective of an industry-wide emphasis on improving financial performance,” said Fred Horton, AMGA president. “Across health care, integrated systems are feeling financially challenged, and as a result, are focusing on better management of their physician enterprises.”
