Cardinal Health's senior VP leaves to join healthcare start-up Oscar: 4 things you need to know

Oscar hired Shaden Marzouk, MD, Cardinal Health's Senior Vice President of Clinical Operations. Here's what you need to know. 

1. Dr. Marzouk will serve as the chief medical officer and oversee the start-up's medical efforts and ensure "the best care possible" is delivered to its patients.

2. Before Cardinal Health, Dr. Marzouk was the chief of neurosurgery at the William Beaumont Army Medical Center, in Texas. She was also a major in the U.S. Army. She earned a master's degree from Duke University, in North Carolina. She worked in the investment banking division of Goldman Sachs Health Care Group.

3. Oscar's CEO Mario Schlosser lauded the hire, saying, "We can't wait to see how Shaden will elevate our game in the way we deliver care for our members."

4. Oscar is a start-up that provides its members with telemedicine care. It also alerts physicians as soon as a patient visits an emergency room. The company assigns each of its members a four-person team to help them "navigate" healthcare.
