The survey, conducted in December 2012, includes responses from 2,365 physicians.
When asked what their average retirement savings are, physicians above the age of 66 years reported:
• Under $100,000 — 2 percent
• Between $100,000 and $500,000 — 8 percent
• Between $500,000 $1 million — 17 percent
• Between $1 million and $3 million — 43 percent
• More than $3 million — 30 percent
