Hospital for Special Surgery plans fall opening for outpatient center
New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery aims to complete its 50,000-square-foot outpatient center this fall. The center will be HSS' largest outpatient center.

Atlanta Orthopaedic Institute collaborates with Practice Partners in Healthcare on ASC
Atlanta Orthopaedic Institute Surgery Center partnered with Practice Partners in Healthcare, a surgical services provider, to develop and manage an ASC. Raj Pandya, MD, AOI's founder, will help Practice Partners develop and manage the ASC.

Madonna opens pediatric surgery center
American songwriter and artist Madonna opened a surgery center in Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre, Malwai. The surgery center will likely double the number of pediatric surgeries providers perform every year in Malwai.

New York hospital planning ambulatory facility
New York City-based Wyckoff Heights Medical Center wants to build an ambulatory facility in the space of a former automotive garage. The medical center wants to create a two-story ambulatory diagnostic and treatment facility in New York City, with a parking garage on the lower story.

Outdated colonoscopies performed at Oregon VA hospital prompt country-wide changes
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs inspector general is initiating system-wide changes after determining the Roseburg (Ore.) Veterans Affairs Medical Center performed colonoscopies using outdated methods. While the inspector general's report noted the center's colonoscopies had no documented adverse events, the former chief of surgery at Roseburg VA was using outdated practices like burning polyps.

Judge rules in favor of Cigna in lawsuit filed by Chicago ASC
U.S. District Judge Harry D. Leinenweber ruled in favor of Cigna regarding a lawsuit Chicago-based Advanced Ambulatory Surgical Center Inc. filed against the payer for allegedly wrongly denying reimbursement for claims for some Cigna-insured patients. For more on the case, click here.

UVA Health System opening new endoscopy center after 3 years
Charlottesville, Va.-based UVA Health System is opening its 23,000-square-foot Endoscopy Center in Charlottesville. The center has been under development for three years. It'll open officially July 17.
