Here’s what you should know.

1. Virtua CEO Dennis Pullin said the health system is negotiating with independent physicians to increase its outpatient surgery capabilities.

2. The deals would be setup as joint ventures, but it’s unclear how many will come to fruition. Mr. Pullin said “some deals could fall through and some may not.”

3. Virtua COO Al Campanella said Virtua was the first system in New Jersey to have a freestanding surgery center 30 years ago. He added the health system’s outpatient ambulatory services business makes up 52 percent of its total revenue.

4. Virtua is capitalizing on a recently passed bill allowing registered one-room surgical centers to obtain licenses from the New Jersey Department of Health. The bill allows physician owners to sell their surgical centers more easily.
