Vanderbilt offers $4.8M for property to build ASC, pediatric clinic — 6 notes

Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanderbilt University Medical Center wants to buy up to 14 acres of property for a new ASC and pediatric clinic, Daily News Journal reports.

Here's what you should know.

1. The hospital is seeking between 11 and 14 acres of property in Murfreesboro, Tenn., for a 37,500-square-foot medical building.

2. VUMC has offered $8 per square foot or $348,480 per acre, for a total of $3.8 million to $4.8 million.

3. Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital, Murfreesboro Medical Clinic and TrustPoint Hospital are located in the Murfreesboro area VUMC is eyeing.

4. The first phase of construction would cost more than $21 million and begin 10 to 12 months after the property is acquired. VUMC expects to employ 14 medical doctors and nurse practitioners, and 40 to 50 other staff members in the initial space.

5. VUMC proposed a second phase of construction to occur within 10 years. It would require an additional $51.5 million to add 100,000 square feet to the building and bring the job count to between 120 and 150.

6. The Murfreesboro City Council will discuss the proposal March 15. Murfreesboro Mayor Shane McFarland has expressed support for the sale.

Update: The Murfreesboro City Council voted to approve the property sale, WGNS Radio reports. VUMC plans to build the single-story medical facility between a church, Primary Care & Hope Clinic and Kasai North America's corporate headquarters.
