Primary care specialties drove physician demand in 2025, with three of the four most-recruited specialties in internal medicine, family medicine and pediatrics, according to Doximity’s 2026 Physician Compensation Report.
The findings are based on an analysis of tens of thousands of job postings across the Doximity network in 2025, according to a company news release. The high demand for primary care aligns with longstanding concerns over an anticipated shortage of 70,610 full-time equivalent primary care physicians by 2038, according to the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration.
