Cone Health, formerly Moses Cone Health System, applied for the CON earlier this year to build the ASC, a $10.7 million joint-venture outpatient center between the health system and physicians. The 12,000-square-foot facility would have been called Triad Surgery Center and feature three ORs.
The state rejected the application on grounds that the new ASC is not necessary due to declines in surgery service demands and enough available operating rooms. The project faced objections by a number of competitors.
Cone Health will attempt to address state regulators’ concerns and ultimately appeal the denial if it is necessary, according to the report.
