In 2013, the health system experienced a 12 percent decline in outpatient surgeries, slipping from 46,670 in 2012 to 40,843. The decline is expected to continue into next year, but St. Joseph Mercy executives hope the new outpatient facility will create effective competition in the outpatient arena.
