The hospital designed the same-day surgery center in the ilk of a freestanding surgery center. A patient comes to the center for surgery and goes through the entire surgical process without leaving the center.

The hospital began building the surgery center more than two years ago. RWJUH Somerset CEO and President Anthony Cava said, “[The surgery center] is more patient and family friendly. It’s a win-win.”
