Potential UA, Banner Health merger could lead to new ASC

The Arizona Board of Regents is set to vote on the proposed merger of Phoenix-based Banner Health and the University of Arizona Health Network, based in Tucson, according to an azcentral report.

Under the agreement, Banner would pay off UA Health Network’s $146 million in debt and commit investment to several projects including a new ambulatory surgery center at UA Medical Center, according to the report.

UA Health Network’s facilities would be renamed to align under Banner branding.

If approved, the merger is expected to close on Feb. 27.
