What you should know:
1. The Baystate Franklin Auxiliary, the hospital’s fundraising arm, pledged $200,000 to the surgery center five years ago and raised the money through sales at the hospital’s gift shop. A team of volunteers runs the gift shop.
2. Baystate built the surgery center in 2016 and has been paying it off since.
3. The Auxiliary exists to raise funds for things that fall outside the hospital’s budget. It also funds scholarships for students pursuing careers in the medical field.
