The latest expansion has Planning Board approval, but Greenport Village Mayor David Nyce says he needs village and hospital officials to agree on the safety of the expansion.

According to the report, the project would add a small expansion on the building’s eastern side. Hospital President and CEO Paul Connor III said ambulatory surgery has increased in the last 10 years from a few hundred cases every year to more than 5,000, as technological advancements have allowed minimally invasive procedures to move into the ASC setting. Changes in insurance reimbursements now provide better compensation for outpatient procedures, he said.

Several new outpatient procedures, including new gastrointestinal procedures, will be implemented at ELIH, according to the report.
