Here’s what you should know:
1. The surgery center will perform several shorter procedures for “otherwise healthy children.” Some procedures include tonsil removal or hernia repairs. Complex surgeries will take place on the hospital’s main campus.
2. The center has eight preoperative rooms, two induction rooms, four operating rooms, a post anesthesia care unit and eight postoperative rooms.
3. In an innovative feature, children will “fly” to the operating room in small remote controlled airplanes cars.
4. President and CEO Deborah Feldman elaborated on the planes in a release, “This is just one of the ways that we make care different at Dayton Children’s. Everything we do is focused on what makes the best overall experience for children and their parents. Whether it be a fun way to get to the operating room or having doctors and nurses who are specially trained in caring for kids, parents can know that when they come to Dayton Children’s, their child is our top priority.”
