As part of the merger, Long Beach Memorial, which is part of MemorialCare Health System, will take over Community Hospital’s operations while due diligence is performed. This is expected to take up to a year.
Community Hospital was once operated by Catholic HealthCare West until about 10 years ago, when the health system closed the hospital. Community members and physicians reopened the hospitals in 2001 as an independent community facility, according to the report.
The hospital has struggled in recent years, with an average census of less than 75 inpatients despite being licensed for 200 beds, according to the report.
